Mira Costa swim team placed fourth in the Redondo Relay Invite against seven other schools including Redondo Union, Crescenta Valley, Palisades Charter, Peninsula, Torrance, Palos Verdes, and Mary Star on March 2.
“It was very much about [each simmer] doing their part and then it comes together [in the relays],” freshman Jillian Dela Barre said. “It’s just fun. I think Costa did very well.”
Costa had a total of 240 points, compared to Redondo who placed first with 284. The top swimmers were; junior Kate Kramer who did well at the 500m free, senior Sawyer Coye put up some fast times close to CIF cuts, and sophomore Katie Wrigley did well in the IM, according to head coach Ali Isham.
“All of our swimmers did well,” Isham said. “We were missing a lot of our Varsity team due to various reason so the rest of the group really stepped it up. As a whole, we looked good and were racing. Swimmers did great being ready to go.”
Costa’s next swim meet is the “Green and Gold” intrasquad meet on March 7 at home. The team is looking to improve on starts, turns and finishes as other teams were catching them there, according to Isham.
“I think we will gradually improve naturally over time once we get more in the swing of things [because it was our first meet of the season],” Dela Barre said.
