John Maher Sr. passed away on March 7, 2019 after a battle with cancer. He was born on March 2, 1962 in Inglewood, California and graduated from Hawthorne High School and went on to attend El Camino College. John started working for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District in 2001 as a substitute teacher, an Operations Worker and a Building Maintenance Worker. As a Building Maintenance Worker for the last 12 years, John visited all district school sites and gathered many friends within the district. He was always incredibly helpful and positive and will be dearly missed by his MBUSD family.
John and his wife Joan Silengo enjoyed going to Angels games, concerts and comedy clubs, as well as listening to music and watching comedy specials. John will forever be remembered for his compassion and humor to all those around him. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in John’s honor on Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawthorne, with a celebration of life to follow at the Hawthorne Moose Lodge.
