The Mira Costa baseball team’s upcoming season is in full swing after months of intensive preseason training. This season, the team has 15 seniors who have a lot of experience and knowledge which will help the juniors and sophomores on the team.

“So far, we’ve been playing well as a team,” senior Nick Carpino said. “Our pitching has been good, defense has been solid, and our hitting has been good in most of the games, but I think we need to find ways to put runs on the board when we face an elite pitcher. Our hitting hasn’t been bad but in some games we’ve struggled against some good pitchers.” The Mustangs played against Peninsula at Peninsula High School on Wednesday and won the game 13-0. Senior  Christian Bodlovich pitched six innings with 11 strikeouts and senior Dylan Dennis hit a grand slam. The next game is a home match against Peninsula today at 3:15 p.m. According to Bodlovich, the team needs to improve on their overall sense of urgency, but the team has been doing a good job of bonding as a team. They know that they have a lot of talent on this year’s roster and if they can put it all together, they can have a long run in CIF, Bodlovich said.

“We want to show everyone who we are,” junior Nate St. Germain said. “We weren’t considered a top team in the preseason rankings and we want people to eat their words.”
