Girls water polo travels for a tournament

On Jan. 21 and 22, the Costa girls water polo team competed in the AFC Invitational Tournament in San Diego with five other schools.

On Jan. 21, the Mustangs played Whittier High School. Mira Costa won the game 15-7. In their second game, however, they lost to Vista 19-8.

On Jan. 22, Costa played three games. Their first game was against Rancho Bernardo. With a score of 15-6, they won. Next, the Mustangs played Tomesco Canyon. The Mustangs lost their closest game of the tournament with a score of  7-6 after double overtime. Costa played against Irvine in their last game and lost 8-2.

Seniors Natalie Lavinsky and Marisa Purcell led the team in offensive attacks along with junior Sara Booth. Senior goalie Emma Fiore was also a leading force in the Mustangs’ game.

After this tournament, Costa has gained a record of 12-6 and continues their Bay League record of 2-1. They play on Jan. 24 at Redondo.
