Mira Costa boys baseball beat Jserra 3-2 on Thursday May 2, in their first round of CIF playoffs, with a top performance by senior Dylan Dennis who hit the game winning double.

“ We played a great game and a lot of clutch plays and Dylan’s big hit allowed us to secure the game.” Junior Jackson Meugnoit said.

The first inning was slow offensively for Costa. By the second inning J Serra had two players on base but, Senior chase Meidroth turned a double play, preventing Jserra from gaining any runs, making the score 0-0 at the bottom of the second.

“ We played very well defense in the first few innings and were able to hold off Jserra from gaining any runs.” Meugnoit said.

J serra scored two runs at the top of the third inning, putting them in the lead. The fourth inning was strong defensively for both Costa and Jserra, neither team managed to get any runs this inning. Making the score 2-0 Jserra in the bottom of the fourth.

“ We were down for a little and our spirits began to go down but we knew this could not be the end for us and that we had to battle in these next two innings.” Meugnoit said.

Costa’s offense capitalized in the sixth inning starting with a single by sophomore Jonah Storey who then stole second and was brought in by senior Nick Carpino. Followed by a hit down the middle from junior Kyle Karros, and finally a big hit down the left side by Dennis to bring in Carpino and Karros, and allow Costa to win the game with a final score of 3-2.

“ We we’re facing a pretty good pitcher who was throwing very well…we got a few runners on and just kept battling and ultimately Dylan came through with a huge hit to put us ahead” Karros (Kyle) said.

Mira Costa will next face off Notre Dame on Thursday May 9,2019 at 3:15 at home for their second round of CIF playoffs.

“Good overall team win. Bodlevich pitched great for us and we had some timely hits the end of the game. I’d say this is the best tourney in the country so it’s hard but we just got to do what we have been doing and we will be fine.” Meidroth said.
