When extra assistance is needed, Costa English teacher Maddie Hutchinson steps in to cater parties alongside her mother, Lisa, for the last 20 years.

Lisa has owned Lisa’s Catering Company for as long as Hutchinson could remember. She caters parties and events for personal clients.

“I grew up helping [my mom] with little things, and the older I got and more experienced I got with customer service related positions, the more obvious it became I would start working parties with [Lisa’s Catering Company],” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson found she was more equipped to cook than her friends in college, and since then has developed a love for hosting dinner parties over the years, Hutchinson said.

“At first [helping Lisa’s Catering] would be something that was handed off to me, but over the years I started to really like cooking,” Hutchinson said.

According to Hutchinson, her mom makes fresh healthy meals and likes to use citrus and herbs for flavor for Lisa’s Catering.

“I remember growing up, I once got up to go wash my hands and the sink was full of frozen crawfish that were defrosting for a New Orleans themed party. She does everything, if there’s a theme [she] matches it,” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson helps with prepping the food leading up to the event, serving Hors-d’oeuvres, preparing the kitchen, clearing plates and more. Also, when Lisa is in need of a cheese board, she turns to Hutchinson.

“My favorite thing to do is making cheese boards, it became my thing over the years where any time she has a cheese board she’ll hire me to do it,” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson typically helps Lisa’s Catering Company with bigger events such as weddings, birthday parties, wedding anniversaries, funerals and wakes.

“We just did my first ever Seder, a traditional jewish meal. They were going through and talking about the story of Moses, which I actually teach, so it was actually really interesting to me to hear that story,” Hutchinson said.
