Students in Mr. Bartlett’s Astrophysics class completed a project creating their own telescopes throughout the school year in an effort to look at objects in outer space with more clarity.

The students began constructing the telescopes in early December in groups of six. Throughout the year, they have polished the scope to perfection, allowing Mr. Bartlett to silver the telescopes which results in the telescope being able to look deep into the sky.

“We all really enjoyed creating the telescopes and the whole process we had to do in class” senior Lauch Farris said. “It’s really cool to be able to see so far away in such high quality that we created.”

The goal was for the students to participate in a night lab with the telescopes, but it was canceled as the clouds were too thick that day. The class has had many night labs in the past, where they come to school during the nighttime and look to the sky for constellations and stars.

“The telescope was an awesome project that had a really cool real world implication,” senior Malcolm Kluth said. “I really enjoyed it and was upset that we couldn’t do the night lab as it was too cloudy.”
