Costa seniors attended the small theatre on Sept. 10 for the annual Letter of Recommendation Meeting during their english periods.
Here counselors Robles, Ramirez, Santarosa and Beck presented what colleges including the UC’s, Cal States, private colleges, universities, and community colleges require for the contents within their applications including their minimum GPAs and how many letters of recommendations they require.
“It becomes challenging for teachers when students aren’t doing the research [of how many letters] their colleges need and end up over asking,” Robles said.
These letters of recommendation are written by the teachers and counselors at Costa and highlight the positive aspects of a student and why they are a good candidate for college admissions. Students at this meeting learned how to ask for these letters in person and through the website Naviance.
“Letter of recommendations are helpful and beneficial to students because it’s coming from an adult perspective and talk about their peer interaction and give insight to college admissions,” Robles said.
Once the presentation was over, students were dismissed and met with their guidance counselors to receive their transcripts.
“While I think the letter of rec meeting was helpful, I think it should have been held a lot sooner because a lot of students felt stressed by the time constraint,” senior Kenna Horgan said.
