The Mira Costa Cross Country Team ran toward the finish line, and placed highly at the Masters University Invite Meet on Saturday, Sep. 28th.
Boys Varsity came in 1st as a team, and were led by senior Thomas Velvin who came in 3rd overall. Other strong runners also contributed to the win, with senior Cormac Carew coming in 6th place, senior Alex Fiorito in 9th, and sophomore Seamus O’Meara in 18th. Girls Varsity also did very well, coming in 2nd place as a team, after sophomore Dalia Frias came in 1st overall. Following Frias came senior Tia Pappas in 10th, and sophomore Kayla Kershaw following close behind in 12th.
“I think both Varsity teams did a great job this meet because we both placed very highly and worked really hard,” sophomore Sam Torres said.
Boys Frosh-Soph also placed very well, coming in 2nd as a team, led by freshman Drew Martin who came in 5th. Sophomore Hatcher Johnson came close behind in 7th place, and freshman Kai Graham in 9th. Girls Frosh-Soph did extremely well, coming in 1st place as a team, with sophomore Annie Iantuono in 1st, freshman Nicole Murch in 2nd, and freshman Reece Riley in 3rd. Sophomore Sofia Cervantes finished soon after in 6th place and sophomore Dylan Oberst came in 9th.
“After coming in 1st, I got a rush of excitement and was so happy that all of my hard work had paid off,” Frias said.
Boys Junior Varsity came in 5th as a team with Jacob Lewin in 12th, followed by junior Jonathan Graves in 13th, and junior Matt Worley in 32nd. Girls Junior Varsity finished in 2nd as a team led by senior Lucy Konsmo in 5th, and followed by junior Lauren Chiu in 7th, junior Kate Phillips in 8th, junior Holly Misley in 9th, and junior Laine Weston in 10th.
“I was very proud of us this meet for doing especially well. We really proved our spot at this invitational meet,” sophomore Lucca Franz said.
