The Mustangs played in the second annual, Point Loma Tennis International at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. The girls came in third overall out of 15 teams.
In round 1 of matches, the girls defeated Rancho Bernardo, 5-1. Senior, Audrey Vo, swept her first and second singles matches, 6-0.
“I thought we all played well, we can always play better but I think everyone put a lot into each match played,” Audrey Vo said.
In the Quarterfinals, the girls beat Canyon Crest, the defending CIF San Diego section Champions, 4-2. In singles, sophomore, Hailey Huynh making a comeback in the 3rd set of the match.
“I think I need to work on staying calm because I think that’s what helped me through this week and I want to workout on the side so I will not get injured or be sore for the next day,” Huynh said. “Surprisingly we did very well against these teams. They are very good and it was tough last year but i’m really happy we pulled through.”
In the semi finals on Saturday at 11, the girls played hard in a very close match but falling short to University, 4-2.
“Even though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted in the end I’m really excited to play more competitive matches with the team as the season goes on,” Audrey Vo said, “and see how far our team will go this year and how much we have improved from previous years.”
The Mustangs are now 13-1 in the season and in Division I are now ranked 3rd in Southern California. The team will play against Beckman on Wednesday, October 2, at Beackman.
“I don’t think we have to do that much different for Beckman on Wednesday maybe just keep practicing more,” said Sydney Vo.
