Costa science teacher Karl Kurz chaperoned students from his Honors Earth Science and AP Environmental Science classes on an education field trip to Griffith Park yesterday to visit the Costa
They attended the observatory’s Samuel Oschin Planetarium show, a digital projection of the cosmos on the state-of-the art planetarium dome. Kurz also guided his students in checking the air quality in Griffith Park by observing the visible smog pollution.
“This field trip was very beneficial because we got to see the concepts we have been learning about in earth science,” senior Saul Droutman said. “The planetarium show gave us a great visual for topics that can be confusing.”
About 35 students went on the field trip, departing after AM Office Hours. They travelled to the park by bus, which was funded by the students’ $25 requested participation fee.
“It’s nice that it was on an Office Hours day because it minimized the amount of class time I had to miss,” Droutman said.
