Mustangs trampled the West Torrance Warriors on Oct. 10. Girls Varsity won against the Warriors in a rematch played at Chester Washington Golf Course. Costa scored 16 strokes lower than in their previous match against West Torrance.
“This was a very important win for our team in terms of making it to CIF and I’m proud of the varsity girls for playing so well,” Coach Tom Cox said.
Junior Juliae Shoda and senior Shani Waite played better in this round than in previous rounds at Chester Washington scoring a 37, almost a perfect score on the par 36 course. Senior Gabi Kiger scored a 38, and sophomore Hannah Gedion, junior Sarah Matsuoka, and junior Kate Stargardter scored a 39.
“We generally score better in matches that we play at home because we know the course well,” sophomore Olivia Lorenzen said.
This was the overall lowest score Costa got from the whole season so far. The Mustangs now 7-6 will play Peninsula High School at Rolling Hills Country Club on Oct. 15.
“The next two games will be the last league matches of the season until CIF finals so it is critical that we do well,” Coach Cox said.
