On October 30th, four Costa singles entered the Bay League Individual finals. The doubles matches were posted due to unsafe air quality, taking place on Nov. 4.
The singles matches took place at The South Bay Tennis Center. Costa entered sophomore Haily Huynh, senior Audrey Vo, junior Kacey Fang, and sophomore Sydney Vo. The doubles matches took place at the Manhattan Beach Country Club. Seniors Peyton Douglas and Amanda, Kiki Daviduk and Hannah Bergin, and Olga Nagy and Sydney Vo were the pairs that entered.
“Before the finals I was a bit nervous,” Sydney Vo said,“but just happy that Kacey and I already made it to CIF.”
Senior Audrey Vo made it all the way to the finals, facing Palos Verdes’ Parker Fry. Vo lost the first set 6-0, but came back in the second set, winning 6-0. In the end, with many questionable calls, Vo fell short, 8-10.
In the doubles final, junior, Kacey Fang and sophomore, Sydney Vo came out victorious in a set of three, winning 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
“During the final I was a bit nervous because we split sets and we lost the second sets.” Sydney Vo said, “after I just felt really happy and accomplished because all of the hard work Kacey and I put in paid off for us,” said Sydney Vo.
All finalists will automatically get a set place in CIF, securing a spot for singles competitor Audrey Vo and doubles team Kacey Fang and Sydney Vo. The first round of CIF starts on Friday, Nov. 8 against Campbell High School at Costa.
“I’m excited about going into the first round of CIF after today,” Fang said. “Campbell should be a fun yet competitive match.”
