With Halloween just around the corner, local amusement parks including Knott’s Scary Farm, Universal Studio Horror Nights and Six Flag Fright Fest are providing thrills and chills for visitors in their frighteningly decorated and transformed theme parks.

These three popular theme parks decorate their rides and attractions like horror movies and invite everyone over 12 years old to come and join the frightening fun. With terrifying mazes, horrific monsters everywhere, and thrilling rides, the haunts are definitely appealing to those who enjoy a good scare.

“Knott’s Scary Farm and Universal Studios Horror Nights are both really exciting to go to because they scare you so badly,” junior Cayla Sjostrand said.

The longest running Halloween park is Knott’s. Not only is the park transfigurated into 160 acres of horror, but the employees also transform into frightening characters.

“Knott’s Scary Farm is great. I love the clowns that chase you around with the chainsaws and slide on their knees. They scare the living daylights out of me,” junior Taylor Franklin said.

Knott’s Scary Farm always has 13 mazes and sometimes switches them into different themes. Knott’s Scary Farm lasts through Halloween and always begins at 7 p.m. and lasts until either 1 or 2 a.m., depending on the night. In addition, tickets cost $59 per two people, and $99 per foursome.

“Knott’s Scary Farm is always worth the money. They do such a good job at decorating the park, and the mazes seem so realistic,” freshman Cody Kelley said.

Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights does not have as many mazes as Knott’s Scary Farm, but the select few are absolutely terrifying. The park’s theme is based around Universal Studio’s horror movies, such as “Halloween.” Well-known characters, like Michael Myers, walk around and aim to scare visitors straight out of the park.

“Universal Studios is definitely the scariest theme park during October, but it’s still so much fun to go,” sophomore Stephanie Greller said.

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is when the absolute scariest movies come to life throughout the park. This event costs $70 to attend, lasting from 6:30 p.m. until 12 a.m. or 2 a.m. depending on the night through Oct. 31.

“Universal Studios is a really good place to get scared because the employees dress up as famous characters from horror movies and they look so real,” junior Sean Judge said.

Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain is aimed more toward younger teens and children. Although the park is full of “scare zones” and mazes, it is much more focused on Six Flags Magic Mountain’s famous rides. Fright Fest is not only a place for family-oriented fun, it’s a place to experience the chill of Halloween.

“The Fright Fest is cool because the “scare zones” are in the two main parts of the park, which makes it full of fun in those specific spots. I love going on all of Magic Mountain’s rides too,” sophomore Ramie Landis said.

Six Flags Fright Fest takes place all day on the dates of Oct. 3-4, 9-11, 16-18, 23-25, and 30-31. In addition, Fright Fest costs $55 to attend.

Between Six Flags Fright Fest, Knotts Scary Farm, and Universal Studios Horror Nights, thrill seekers of all ages are offered horrifying, yet enjoyable nights at these theme parks around Halloween time.

“I’ve been to Knott’s Scary Farm, the Fright Fest, and Horror Nights at Universal Studios. They are all so much fun, yet scary. I look forward to October every year due to the Halloween Haunts,” sophomore Alex Losson said.
