Mira Costa hosted the second annual Manhattan Beach Rotary Competition on Feb. 4 in the auditorium. The competition showcased Mira Costa Orchestra members and was judged by UCLA music director Neal Stulberg.

The Manhattan Beach Rotary Solo Competition was subdivided into two levels: orchestra members from ninth and 10th grades, and the other was separated into 11th and 12th graders.

Junior violinist Richard Wedeen and senior violinists Nathaniel Chong and Ryan Morrow placed in first, second and third respectively in the older division.  First place in the younger division went to Eric Chong, a freshman cellist, and Eleen Yeh, a sophomore violinist, took second place. Freshman violinist Koh Shoda came in third.

“I think the Manhattan Beach Rotary Solo Competition is a great way to show the audience and judges the kind of music we like,” sophomore violinist Kami Brawer said.
