Costa’s Drama/Tech Department held its annual Holiday Benefit on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the small theater.
All proceeds went toward the Adopt-A-Family organization. The Drama/Tech Department has donated proceeds from the Benefit to Adopt-A-Family for many years. The benefit raised money through ticket sales and separate donations. The Adopt-A-Family works to raise money to support struggling families during the holiday season.
The purpose of the Holiday Benefit is to collect proceeds that will be 100% donated to Adopt-a-Family,” sophomore Drama member Chasen Simon said.
The Drama/Tech Department has been preparing for the benefit for about one week now. The first au- ditions for the benefit took place on Dec. 2, and dress rehearsal for the event was Monday.
“Once you audtion, the process is relatively short,” Simon said. “Unless you count how long it took to put together your scene, monologue, or song, which can vary for different groups.”
Students who participate are given complete creative control for their group’s performance. Participants can perform songs, dances, monologues, short scenes and many other types of performances. In addition, members from the Comedy Sportz team will be playing games before intermission.
“My favorite part of the benefit is everyone coming together for the holiday season and doing what they love for a good cause,” junior Drama member Gabriella Papera said.
The Holiday Benefit is promoted by the students who participate in the event. Lots of students have taken to their social media platforms to share the event’s poster. Students have also been promoting the benefit in their classrooms to ensure they reach their donation goal in ticket sales.
“We try to publicize the event a lot and spreading the info in our classes as much as possible,” Papera said.
The Holiday Benefit is also a way for the students of the Drama Department to practice their perfor- mances for future plays. The benefit is an opportunity for students to perform on a smaller scale than the spring or fall play.
“The benefit consisted of so many talented participants that are involved in the program,” Simon said. “The show was a great success and fun to be a part of.”
