The Mustangs ran in their first meet, Mira Costa against Santa Monica High School on Feb 27 in the Mustang’s first dual meet of the season.
“I think our race went relatively really good and we displayed what we did in practice really well and persevered,” sophomore Grace Partin said.
Varsity girls placed first in the 4 by 100 race persevering through the end to get to the finish line. Santa Monica High messed up during the race giving Mira Costa an extra lead.
“It was unfortunate that the other team dropped their baton in both froph-soph and varsity 4 in 1 relay races but helped us get a leg up and win the race,” Partin said.
Senior Calvin Bream won the 100 meter race pushing through the end past the competition, setting a new season record along with placing 3rd in the 200 meter race setting a new personal record. Shane Shwarz placed 4th in the 400 meter race. Senior Billy Atkinson placed 1st in the 800 meter race and junior Colin Beale placed 3rd both setting new personal records.
“Calvin Bream blew out the competition in the 100 meter varsity race” junior Sean Laufenberg said.
Their next meet will be on Feb 29 at Trabuco Hills High School for the Trabuco Hills Invitational.
