The Mustangs charged into playoffs at full speed, defeating the Fighting Frogs, 45-19.

In their first playoff game of the season, Mira Costa Girls Basketball defeated Ribet Academy by a deficit of 26 points. The game took place on Thursday, Feb. 13 at Ribet Academy in Los Angeles. Although the game started off close, the Mustangs were quickly able to get ahead and pull out a big win, beating the Frogs 45-19.

“We worked hard and did a good job playing our game,” senior shooting guard Skyler Herdman said. “We stayed focused and worked together to win.”

The top performer of this game was sophomore point guard Cara Susilo. According to Susilo, her personal strength was  helping her team push the ball so they could get the ball rolling and play as a team. By the end of the game, Susilo scored a total of 5 points.

“Last night we were struggling with keeping our energy up,” Susilo said. “We tend to play down to our opponents level which is what we started out doing last night. Our coaches were a little mad so a couple of us decided that we were going to take charge. We started pushing the ball up the court and being more aggressive in terms of driving to the basket and when we started scoring we blew them out of the water.

The Mustangs are scheduled to play their next playoff game on Saturday, Feb. 15  against Sage Hill High School. Their current playoff record is 1-0.

“If we keep playing as a team and working for the win, we all believe will go far in playoffs,” sophomore forward Hannah Gedion said.
