The MBX Foundation sent out an email on April 13, alerting the Costa community that summer school will not offer classes on site at Mira Costa and will instead be using online resources.
MBX is still planning to use the traditional summer school hours of 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from Mon. through Thurs. each week. During this time, students will video conference their classes to meet with instructors and receive assignments for group and individual work.
“While we had hoped to have students meet physically with teachers and their peers, we believe making this decision now allows MBX to work with our teachers to ensure MBX Summer School will continue to offer rigorous and high-quality instruction,” the April 13 email said.
For MBX Flex classes, students will video conference their instructors in pre-scheduled two- or three-hour time periods, depending on what class they are enrolled in. According to the email, MBX is hopeful that summer athletic programs will be able to take place.
“The summer program is a foundation for our cross country season and helps a lot,” JV cross country team member and junior Maya Hernandez said. “If we can’t do it because of the coronavirus, that’s ok because we will just train by ourselves. It won’t be the same, but we won’t really have a choice if we still have to socially distance in the summer. “
