“Space Force” takes inspiration from the announcement of the sixth branch of the United States military, the Space Force from the Trump administration.

Overall the show can be explained as just okay, through the underdeveloped characters but phenomenal cast. While there is missing comedy and a cluttered plot, the show has a lot of potential.

Released on May 29,“Space Force” was created from the people that brought “The Office,” Steve Carell and Greg Daniels. It also stars Steve Carell, John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Diana Silvers, Tawny Newsome, Jimmy O. Yang and Lisa Kudrow.

“Space Force” follows Steve Carell starring as General Mark Naird as he is tasked with running the Space Force along with the other “men and women who have to figure it out.” The goal set by the President is to get “boots on the moon” by 2024.

Throughout the 10 episode series, “Space Force’s” plot appears unorganized through the dropped conflicts and inconsistent tone. Overall it seems like they didn’t know what they wanted the show to be, whether that was a comedy, political satire or something else.

Most of the characters were two-dimensional and didn’t give much background or depth. However, by the end, you are rooting for the characters to succeed.

The comedy didn’t live up to “The Office” and “Parks and Rec.” Going in, you expect it to be a lot funnier, some of the jokes didn’t work or were dragged out. They could have also leaned into some other comedic ideas more.

One of the best parts of “Space Force” is the incredible cast, including characters from “The Office” and “Parks and Rec.” The fantastic performances of the actors could sometimes outweigh some of the negatives.

Another positive aspect of “Space Force” is excellent cinematography. It is a high-quality series with a good concept but not executed well this season.

The series misses opportunities for comedy, while not landing all the jokes they do make. They have high expectations as the creators of “The Office,” but overall present a chaotic plot with two-dimensional characters. In the end, it shows the potential for a better season two with the lovable cast.

Released on May 29, Space Force is rated TV-MA and can be streamed on Netflix.
