Since the Covid-19 shutdown, schools in Los Angeles County are utilizing online learning. Students are supposed to be getting educated while having a substantive interaction between students and teachers. Although, during this pandemic, schools have not been fair with the students. Learning online is difficult and unfair for students who may have the internet disadvantage and/or technology issues. Distance learning can be difficult for many students and the disorganized style makes it even more difficult.

Although students have interactions with their teachers and peers over zoom, it still is not enough for the students to achieve academic success. There are currently limitations with online schooling compared to learning physically face to face. Students have the disadvantages of contacting teachers online, glitches in softwares, and distractions. This makes the online learning process difficult for students. There should be a back up plan for when technology issues do occur, so students don’t fall behind.

When using the software Google Classroom, which is being used at Costa,  it can cause many problems with academic grades, and notifications or reminders coming from teachers. Google Classroom already has glitches in the app, but while being at home there can be internet connection issues and personal device issues. This makes this app a burden to some students that have trouble accessing good internet connections. This can be fixed while having a trustworthy source or app that doesn’t need high internet connections for notifications and homework turn ins.

Talking to a teacher face to face enhances a student to be more focused and active. Although, when students have to email a teacher to contact them personally during school, it doesn’t portray how the student is feeling and their emotion behind words in an email. Teachers should have a better way in contacting them personally besides through emails, since the student isn’t portraying themselves the same way they would face to face. So, teachers should make themselves available to have a private zoom session with students that want the help.

Due to Covid-19 Pandemic, schools have been using online schooling for educating students. Schools should figure out a more organized way to teach students during this pandemic.

Distance learning should have students still being as enhanced and focused as much as they would physically in school. Although, because of the Covid-19 protocols, there are limitations for schooling, but it shouldn’t be in the way of a student’s academic success and thriving academically and as a person. Another thing that would help is if all teachers were as organized as they could be. This would help the students stay informed with all of their classes. Mira Costa High School needs to find better programs or apps that all students can access that are dependable, and doesn’t depend completely on internet access.
