As Mira Costa returns back to the 2020-2021 school year online, there has been a question about whether Google Meets or Zoom is a better platform to use. Teachers have the option to meet with their students on Google Meets or Zoom. Zoom is the better platform over Google Meets as it has way more features, is more organized, and is less susceptible to technology issues for mac users.

Google Meets only displays sixteen participants at once on a screen while Zoom displays up to forty nine participants at once on a screen. Therefore, this demonstrates that Zoom is a better platform as students are able to see more of their peers at one time. Students want to feel comfortable and seeing more of their peers solves this issue.

Both Google Meets and Zoom have various features. In Google Meets there is a feature that allows participants to share their screen, change the layout, mute participants, and share text or documents in the chat area. Zoom offers these features and several other features such as recording a call, chatting with other members, sharing documents on your screen, making HD video calls, using a whiteboard or virtual backgrounds, sending emojis, and much more. Zoom offers more features than Google Meets therefore students can find Zoom more useful for their courses online.

The dashboard of Google Meets is also less organized than Zoom. Mac users tend to have more technology issues with Google Meets. This becomes an issue when students are in need to attend meetings at a certain time or listen in to important information that is being presented. Zoom is known to have less technology errors making it a more successful experience for students.

One may argue that Google Meets is the platform more fit for students because of the different features it offers, but Zoom offers more beneficial features than Google Meets. For example, Zoom offers the whiteboard feature that Google Meets does not. If a student was in a meeting where the teacher was teaching mathematics, the whiteboard becomes very beneficial. The teacher can write on the whiteboard to better demonstrate the material. This replicates what would happen in a classroom, which makes the learning experience more enjoyable and more effective for students.

Zoom is the most beneficial platform to use for students as it allows students the ability to learn more efficiently and more effectively. The platform offers more features for students to learn the material, more organized for students to navigate the platform, and is a better platform for mac users as students will not have trouble attending meetings on time.
