In a stentorian representation of the indie genre, boy pablo’s first full-length album solidifies his sound as an independent artist.
“Wachito Rico” is an impressive, cohesive release with witty lyricism and fun instrumentals. While the album has a somewhat repetitive streak, boy pablo’s undeniable artistry makes for an entertaining listen.
Nicolas Muñoz, known better by his stage name, boy pablo, is a Chilean-Norwegian indie-pop artist. His debut EP, “Roy Pablo,” was released in 2017 and includes some of his most popular tracks such as “Dance, Baby!” and “everytime.” Muñoz has since gone on to perform at sold-out shows and music festivals including Tropicalia in Los Angeles, and is a well-regarded musician of the indie-pop genre.
Released on Oct. 28 by 777 MUSIC, “Wachito Rico” is 13 tracks long. This is boy pablo’s first full-length album.
The release’s true superpower is in its endearing and creative lyricism. boy pablo is well-versed in story-telling, and that is made very clear on “Wachito Rico.” His personable lyrics and unique voice aid the overall amiability and personable nature of the album.
An additional strength of the release comes from its familiar instrumentals. Fans of the indie genre find exactly what they are looking for in boy pablo’s musicality: a cohesive, familiar sound.
“Wachito Rico” thrives off of this particular feature, epitomizing the general tone of modern alternative music.
The album’s sole fault is its sometimes repetitive nature, with some of the tracks beginning to sound the same after a lengthy listen. Fans of the genre, however, may appreciate the overall consistency more than a brand-new listener.
“Wachito Rico” is a charming, exciting release from boy pablo. With a well-defined sound and distinguished lyricism, the album is a must-listen for doting fans of the Indie genre.
