Costa’s yearbook staff begins the process of creating senior superlatives for the 2020-2021 school year.
Senior superlatives are an annual tradition at Costa in which the yearbook staff recognizes various seniors. The process of senior superlatives begins with deciding the different categories of recognitions, traditionally beginning with the phrase “most likely to.” These categories are then given out to seniors to vote for their classmates. The yearbook staff tallies up the votes and determines the two seniors with the most votes for each category so that they can photograph and quote them in the yearbook.
“Senior superlatives are a fun way for students to be able to reflect on their time in high school,” senior and Yearbook Coordinating Editor Sarah Matsuoka said. “It allows everyone to come together, highlight different people and show how they will be remembered.”
This year, however, has posed some obstacles for the yearbook staff to produce their senior superlatives. Distance learning made it difficult for yearbook staff to take photos of senior superlative winners and caused the staff to think even more creatively for superlative categories.
“Online school has made the process of producing senior superlatives harder since we aren’t able to take photos in the studio this year,” Matsuoka said. “Overall, this year is different from previous years since we have new categories that are more related to the pandemics.”
