In their final match of the regular season, on Thursday, March 29, Mira Costa Boys Tennis faced off against Redondo Union away at Redondo. The Mustangs ended up defeating the Seahawks, 11-7.
“The lengths this team has gone this year does not surprise me,” junior and varsity tennis player Jensen Ring said. “We knew from day one that we were going to still be a big presence in CIF even though we lost a few key players last year. Despite that, our team has still shown signs of greatness as we still might be the best team in division one or sneak into open.”
The top performer of this match was freshman Will Lokier. Playing number two doubles with junior Tanner Chen, they won all three of their matches, helping the team pull out a win.
“The whole team played great against Redondo,” Lokier said. “We were all cheering on our teammates in every game.”
This concludes the Mustangs’s regular season. They are currently scheduled to begin their Bay League individual competition in two weeks. Boys tennis finished their season with an overall record of 9-3.
“Depending on if we’re either in D1 or Open, I know we’ll succeed either way,” Ring said. “We’re looking to capture a boys’ championship for MCHS and we’re ready to face whoever stands in our way. This final stretch is going to be the last time our seniors ever wear a Costa tennis uniform so it’s also a sentimental journey. Whatever happens, I want to inform people that this team gave it their all.”
