Mira Costa Girls Soccer shut out Santa Monica High School with a score of 3-0 in their twelfth game of the season on Monday, May 3. The top performer of the game was Junior Ellie Weissenberg, scoring one goal and excelling at controlling the ball movement.
The Mustangs dominated in the first half of the game, keeping the ball on their offensive side and easily recovering defensively. This resulted in three goals by Weissenberg, Senior Rachel Fox, and Junior Riley Hansen. In the second half, Costa was unable to score again, but kept the Vikings from scoring with three saves by senior goalie Makena Honda.
“We came out strong and dominated the game by working hard, which paid off by us scoring 3 great goals,” said Weissenberg. “We created a lot of chances to score and put a lot of pressure on their back line which led to them making mistakes and leading to goals for us.”
The Mustangs’ next game is a home game against rivals Redondo Union High School on Wednesday, May 5.
“I am looking forward to our next game against Redondo,” said Weissenberg. “We beat them the last time we played them and hopefully we can do it again.”
