Mira Costa boys lacrosse fell to Harvard-Westlake on May 24, losing 6-20 in their first CIF game. The top performer of the game was senior Jack Sizemore, scoring two goals in the second half.
The Mustangs fell behind in the first half with only two goals by seniors Trey Mora and Nik Butler, resulting in a score of 2-14. According to Sizemore, Costa played well offensively, but fell short when it came to defense.
“Costa started off strong on the offensive end, but later broke down…on the defensive end as well as the face off,” Sizemore said. “[Our] middies and attack men worked plays very well, [but] our lack of physicality was our fall off, as the other team would run through our defense and not get hit.”
This loss to Harvard-Westlake concludes Costa’s boys lacrosse season. According to Sizemore, the team came together and worked extremely hard this year.
“We’ve been preaching hard work for years, but the people this year really embodied the type of passion we as players have for the game,” Sizemore said. “Although the season didn’t go as planned, the mental grit and toughness that the players have gained will continue to spread throughout the program to make us stronger each year.”
