“The Djinn” disappoints audiences with little backstory, dissatisfying action

“The Djinn” proved to be  boring, slow, and repetitive  throughout the film which provides a dissatisfactory amount of backstory, flat out action, and entertainment throughout. 

“The Djinn”, released on May 14. is directed by David Charbonier and produced by Ryan Scaringe. The film includes Ezra Dewey as Dylan Jacobs. Additionally, Dylan’s father, Michael Jacobs, is played by Rob Brownstein and his mother is played by Tevy Poe. 

Dylan and his father move to a new house and there is an old book that details how to summon the Djinn and the wishes that are granted by it. Finally, Djinn transfers Michael’s ability to speak to Dylan and returns to the book.

This film lacked action in its plot throughout the movie. The plot was not as interesting and horrifying. It didn’t keep viewers intrigued the whole time and lacked a backstory in the start of the movie. For example, the movie did not provide any information in the start, it just panned to Dylan’s mom crying and then quickly cut to a different scene. 

The soundtrack used provides extreme suspense throughout. It made the scenes far more chilling and gave them different tones when Dylan is hiding from the monster and fighting for his life. Without the slow-paced and suspenseful music, this movie would lose its terrifying nature. 

The setting of the movie also added a sense of comfort. Dylan was very comfortable in his room and knew all of the places where he could hide. This allowed the film to give a feeling of crippling fear, but extreme comfort in the scenes when Dylan was hiding in the comfort of his cabinets and shaking of fear. 

The movie was  repetitive and the acting in the film was subpar.  Dewey was too young to play a major role in the film. If he was older and more mature, the film would have had smoother overall acting. 

Additionally, the film was uninteresting. It kept having the Djinn hunt down Dylan and have him escape. It needed more variety and characters in the film. If there were two main characters, the film would have had more action and variety. 

The purpose or intent of this film was to provide an intriguing plot and terrifying backstory to the audience. It was made to show how effective the soundtrack of a movie can be on the overall viewer experience. 

Overall, people should watch “The Djinn” because it is an extremely suspenseful and spine-chilling horror movie that displays the effectiveness of sound. The film can be found on Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft Store, Google Play, iTunes, and Vudu.
