Selena: The Series portrays the life of Selena Quintanilla, a legendary singer, who was murdered in 1995 at just 23 years old.

Multiple portrayals of Selena’s short, yet remarkable life have been attempted through numerous movies, however, with the directing staff being composed partially of the immediate family of Selena, Selena: The Series accurately, and beautifully portrays Selena’s notable life.

Selena Quintanilla was a Tejano singer who was loved by many. Selena was often referred to as the “Queen of Tejano music,” and was credited with introducing Tejano music to mainstream. While Selena did grow up speaking English, she sang in Spanish at the request of her father so she could become connected with her Latino community.

Selena: The Series does a wonderful job in displaying an accurate representation of Selena’s life. By incorporating the encouragement Selena received from her father reflected throughout her own life was a brilliant addition to the series. It was this encouragement Selena received from a young age that catapulted her singing career and set her on her path to becoming the “Queen of Tejano music.”

Most notably, the series focuses on Selena’s known love for costume design. Throughout her lifetime, it was clear to her audience that much of Selena’s joy stemmed from her costume designs. Many fans of the series were overwhelmingly pleased with the choice for Selena’s costumes in the series.

Another amazing aspect of the background production of the series was the addition of Selena’s close family members to the directing staff. It was clear the series truly embodied the spirit of Selena and emphasized her passion for music.

The casting was also impeccable, especially for Selena’s father, who exhibits the mentality of an old school Mexican father. This mentality proves to be very similar to Selena’s father’s characteristics. Overall, the series was very well-casted, however, Selena’s father’s casting stood out in a good way.

The accuracy and personalization of Selena: The Series makes the series amazing and worth the watch. While walking the reader through Selena’s life, from her childhood to directly before her murder, the viewer is supplied with background and personal information of a very influential singer, Selena Quintanilla.

All 18 episodes of the first and second part of “Selena: The Series,” which is rated TV-PG, are available for streaming on Netflix.
