Mira Costa girls tennis fell to Westlake high school on Tuesday, August 31st, with a final score of 11-7. The Mustangs first match took place at Westlake high school, where they started with a strong lead, but ultimately fell short.
“We went in with a positive mindset, but we knew it would have been a tough match going into it,” senior Ella Lokier said. “With the Warriors winning state last year we did not feel as confident as we should have, nonetheless we all tried and played our best.”
The top performers of the match were number-one doubles team senior Sydney Vo and sophomore Maily Huynh, going undefeated throughout the match, and ultimately winning 3 matches overall.
“I think that our team did very well against Westlake,” Vo said. “They had many stronger plays but our team was able to stay close till the second round where we were actually tied 6-6, we all did our best and it paid off because we were able to stay close against a very strong team.”
According to senior Haily Huynh, the Mustangs are going to become more unified for upcoming matches, and are excited for the rest of the season, waiting to see what comes out of it. They hope to come back even stronger in their next match.
“This is our first year as a team,” Huynh said. “I think we need to become more spirited and get closer as a team. We want our doubles teams to feel comfortable with each other hoping to get most of our points in doubles. We are looking forward to practicing as a team and getting that team chemistry.”
