The Mustangs fell against Harvard Westlake on Tuesday, August 31st, with a final score of 16-8. The score was close for the first three quarters but the team ultimately came up short, losing by 8.
Costa started strong in the first half, and held a tight game with the Wolverines, the reigning division one champions.. The teams were head to head until Costa’s defense began to falter, giving the Wolverines an opportunity to pull ahead during the third quarter. In the end, the Mustang’s defense is what ultimately cost them the game.
“In hindsight we could have played better, but for the first game of the season, I think we did pretty well,” senior team captain Victor Katz said. “I am looking forward to the upcoming season and to see what our guys can do”
The Mustangs are now starting their season with a record of 0-1. According to Katz, they are planning to turn this around in upcoming games. The team’s next games will take place the weekend of September 9th, at the Santa Barbara Invitational tournament.
“We could definitely improve on our communication,” senior goalie Jake Linnel said. “Once we get that down, we should be able to see good results”
