On Saturday, September 25th, the Mira Costa cross country team participated in the 2021 Nike Portland XC Invite meet. The race took place at the Blue Lake Regional Park near Portland, Oregon. The race consisted of a 5k run and was based on invite only, which included the top runners from Costa.

The Mustangs had strong races with girls varsity finishing in 3rd place overall and senior Dalia Frias finishing 3rd, individually. The girls JV frosh/soph team came in 2nd. Boys varsity won 1st place overall with sophomore Luke Graham finishing in 1st place.

“My favorite part of the meet was being able to cheer on all my teammates and get the chance to race against good competition,” sophomore Christy Poon said. “The course was a little uncomfortable but all of the training that we did in practice helped me accept that being uncomfortable was good.”

The girls Varsity team, with 77 points, was only one point away from the 2nd place team, Summit High School, which is ranked 7th in the nation. Costa cross country is now ranked 12th in the nation.

“I am most proud of how we raced like a team in this race,” Frias said. “Most of our girls ran together and pushed each other to do better. I think this paid off and is why we did so well.”
