The first trailer broke the record for most views in a day and it brings back villains from
entirely different series, so it is safe to say that Spider Man No Way Home is a big deal. With the movie coming out December 17th discussion has begun among fans.
Spider Man No Way Home is the third installment in Marvel’s Spider-Man. In this
upcoming movie the hero’s identity has been revealed, and in an attempt to erase the minds of the public, he ends up bringing back villains from other universes that he must stop.
“This is a lot more ambitious than I thought they were going to be at any point. I
expected maybe one or two villains,” Geoffrey’s Comics employee, Christian Gate said. “I would.”
The return of old villains brings more opportunities for the movie. Not just in the form of
scenes where old characters interact with new ones but classic team ups from the comics. The Sinister Six is the most speculated one.
“Yes, I do think it’s(The Sinister Six) gonna appear,” Freshman Juan Cortes said. “I mean we already have Scorpion, Vulture, Mysterio, Venom, Electro, Sandman, and Doctor Octopus. There are more than enough villains available.”
The Sinister Six is a group of Spider-Man villains with over 20 variations. The original
version includes Kraven, Mysterio, Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Sandman, and Electro. All except Kraven are confirmed by the trailers or previous movies, so the group’s appearance is one character away.
“I’m hoping Venom will come out but I’m not sure,” Freshman Jacob Valle said. “If that
were to happen (it) would be really cool, since we haven’t seen an interaction between both of them in movies recently. It doesn’t make sense not to have him, they’re made for each other.”
There have also been rumors about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man
making appearances. McGuire has not spoken on it and Garfield outright denies his appearance so the chances of an appearance from a previous Spider-Man are slim. However, according to Strawpoll.com there are fans still excited at the idea.
“I’m hoping that they bring back Spider-Man 2 and the original Spider-Man all together;
all different universes,” gym custodian Michael Cortes said. “That is my highest expectation. I want Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and then obviously Holland”
Even though there are Marvel fans that are excited at the idea of all the Spider-Men
coming together the consensus is not all-encompassing. There are fans who think it would be boring to have three of the same character all in one movie.
“I mean why do we need to? It would be three of the same character in it so they
probably won’t appear,” Freshman Free Perkinson said. “Plus I don’t really like the way they deal with time travel”
Even amongst fans who do not want the old Spider-Man there is still division. While
some fans want no other Spider-Man at all, others want an appearance from Miles Morales. A character written by Brian Michael Bendis to be a successor to Spider-Man.
“I hope we just stick with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and hopefully Miles Morales,”
Cortes said. “I feel like the original Spider-Men should stay in their own universe instead of
going to this new world. Miles Morales is more of a successor to Spider-Man while the others are replacements.”
Even though the movie’s main niche has been revealed, there is still a lot that has been
hidden. So some fans have decided to theorize about other events that could possibly happen, by looking at classic story tropes and comics the movies were based on.
“It reminds me of the recent ‘Sinister War’ comic,” Gate said. “If it is based on that story I
can suspect that some of the more redeemable villains are going to team up and change size. Like Doctor Octopus, I don’t see him remaining a villain.”
Other theories do not have such a big focus on the main events of the movie. Instead
they are focused on the overall plot/theme of the movie from beginning to end.
“It clearly sounds like a genie in the bottle story,” Cinematic Arts teacher Michael
Hernandez said. “The first wish is wasted, the second wish is a big mistake, and the third wish solves the second wish. The second wish is ‘I wish I could turn it back to when nobody knew’”
Even though the movie has a lot of excitement around it, not everyone shares the same
expectations for it. After seeing the trailer some people expect mediocrity from No Way Home.
“It’s classic Marvel, it’s always the same music and visual effects,” Hernandez said. “I
always prefer to have a real story and care less about the visual effects… I don’t like this
American hero story where it’s the solo hero who has to save the world”
While people might not always have the greatest expectations, there is still generally a
positive attitude towards the movie. For many, this new Spider-Man series has only been getting better with each release.
“The first was just another Marvel movie but the second was a step forward for the total
MCU,” Freshman Sebastian Assidao said. “ Especially because it deals with a lot of the grief
that Peter and the fan base has for Tony Stark. I’m really excited for the movie.”
