Throughout the fall, the Costa baseball team has been selling Christmas trees to local families in the area in preparation for the holidays. They offer a variety of trees, tree stands, and even do the heavy lifting for their customers.

“We offer tree deliveries at your convenience for an extra fee,” senior Cole Trudgen said. “Our players drive to your house and bring your tree to its new home.”

Many families get their tree from the team each year. According to Costa parent Shelby Gonosey, it’s a great way to connect and give back to the community during the holidays.

“I love buying our tree from the Mira Costa baseball team,” Gonosey said. “Every time we buy a tree from the team, we’re so happy with how pretty it is. I like that we’re helping to raise money. We love that we’ve helped the school and the team!”

The trucks are set up in Costa’s senior parking lot on Peck and Artesia. The players, coaches and parent volunteers all help to unpack the trees out of the trucks before beginning deliveries.

“I’m proud to be part of the MCHS baseball team and what we are doing for the annual tree fundraiser,” sophomore Dane Garmoe said. “I’m excited for this Saturday to distribute trees, meet our supporters and bond as a team!”

Sales from this fundraiser are used to supply uniforms and equipment, as well as maintain facilities and pay coaches.

“In addition, the team donates a portion of its trees to various organizations, such as the Boys and Girls Club,” Trudgen said. “The trees are given to families who cannot afford them so that they can still experience the holiday they deserve.”
