California terminated its indoor mask mandate on March 12, for schools and childcare centers. This comes after the indoor mandate was lifted for every other public space, including those indoors, on March 1st.
Nationally, new COVID-19 infections have been decreasing drastically since a spike in late January. Currently, the U.S. has about 30,000 new cases a day. At its peak, there were 800,000 new cases a day.
“I agree with those who want to now lift the mask mandate because they are not being worn properly anyway in school and are becoming less necessary as the year progresses,” said junior Chloe Quevedo.
Sentiments such as those expressed by Chloe portray an opinion that is in the majority. Many students are thrilled to no longer wear masks. Nevertheless, there are still many students and faculty that have expressed concern.
