On March 25, in the Redondo Union gym, Costa boys indoor volleyball took a 3-1 win in a close match against Redondo with set scores of 27-25, 32-30, 18-25, and 25-22. On March 29, Costa boys indoor volleyball fell to Loyola High, 0-3, at the Mira Costa gym with set scores of 20-25, 19-25, and 13-25.

“We played at a high level throughout both matches and worked together as a team,” sophomore libero Zach Chapin said. “Redondo was an important win for us because it helped boost our confidence for CIF in May.”

In the second set of the Redondo game, the two teams were neck and neck, but the Mustangs were able to pull through. Sophomore outside hitter Victor Loiola and sophomore libero Zach Chapin helped close out the second set with their hits, blocks, and passes.

“I’m so proud of the guys for clawing back in the fourth after falling short in the third set,” Chapin said. “I’m
excited to see what we can bring to our last league games and CIF.”

Although the Mustangs lost to Loyola on Thursday, both schools came together that night to pay respects towards the Lee family. Before the game began, the entire gym took a moment of silence for Lauren Lee, the mother of junior outside hitter Noah Lee, who recently passed away from cancer.

“Watching the two teams play each other as local rivals was very exhilarating as a spectator,” spectator Ava Nicols said. “I know that the players are friends outside of volleyball, so it is interesting to see their dynamic in the competitive world.”
