Noah Cyrus’s new album “The Hardest Part” combines the genres of country and pop to express the many relatable issues she has had in past relationships.
“The Hardest Part” was released on September 16, 2022 by Noah Cyrus, an American 22 year old singer. The deep and meaningful lyrics take the listener on an emotional rollercoaster through a mix of both slow and upbeat music.
Taking after her musically successful family, Cyrus follows in her family’s footsteps in making country music with her own twist of pop, sharing her personal experiences. After kickstarting her career as a child actress, she continued into the music industry. On top of being a singer-songwriter she is also a voice actress.
In an interview with Forbes Magazine, Cyrus said she was inspired to write this album because of the tenderness and vulnerability that she was feeling before moving back to Nashville to be with her family. After moving, she started her emotional journey of healing and expressing her raw emotions through her music.
“Mr. Percocet”, the third track of this album, explains the different ways drug use can affect someone, especially in a relationship. Sharing her struggles, she helps listeners with drug related issues in their life understand they aren’t alone, which creates a comforting feeling, while raising awareness to her younger audience.
Cyrus first wrote the seventh track, “Unfinished” at the young age of 15. It describes a failed relationship which could have been fixed and expresses the concept of the “right person, wrong time” trope, which creates the bittersweet feeling many know.
Although all of her songs are original, Cyrus said she was inspired by Dolly Parton, Death Cab, and the Eagles. When blending their genres, she creates her own gentle and moving sound throughout this album.
Despite her musical talents, Cyrus does not demonstrate much vocal range, even in her upbeat songs. This makes many of the songs sound similar due to her same tone of voice which is disappointing, knowing she said she’s a soprano. However, country music is more about telling a story rather than demonstrating vocal range like some other genres including soul and opera.
“The Hardest Part” is most definitely worth listening to, especially if you’re a fan of country music. Although Cyrus is still a young and growing artist following in her family’s footsteps, the well-blended mix of genres and emotions show Noah’s true talent and full potential.
“The Hardest Part” can be streamed on Apple Music, SoundCloud, Spotify, Youtube, and Amazon Music. The album can be purchased for $23.00 at Walmart or Barnes & Noble.
