On Oct. 29, Marching Band and Colorguard competed in the 2022 Western Bands Association SoCal Super Show, hosted at El Camino College’s Murdock Stadium. The teams competed in the 4A Division at 6:25 and received 5th place.
“My favorite part of this competition is the community,” sophomore flutist Sebastian Asiddao said, “We sit around and talk with each other, and it makes every competition worth it.”
Mira Costa’s GRAMMY© award winning Marching Band and Colorguard debuted their percussion feature from their production “Let Them Eat Cake”. They received fifth place, improving by 6.6 points from their last competition.
“After every performance, we have a dinner mostly comprising of spam musubi that the band moms make for us,” Asiddao said, “It’s the traditions and memories we share that make us a family.”
Marching Band and Colorguard will continue rehearsals preparing for their upcoming competitions and events this season. Led by Joel Carlson, Band travels across the country, showcasing their work at competitions and at various parades and events.
“In less than 3 weeks, we have a championship at Trabuco Hills High School in Mission Viejo,” Asiddao said. “Not long after that, we have grand championships which will be the culmination of all our hard work. Then, the field show season is finished, but we still do parades, such as the Santa Parade at the Village, the parade at Disneyland, and then in March we go to Hawaii for another parade.”
Band continues to showcase their musicianship and impressive performances beyond our Waller Stadium and over the years they have created a tight-knit community of young aspiring musicians.
“My favorite part about guard is competitions and getting to hang out with the team,” senior Cora Uchida said. “At competitions we get to see shows other teams have worked hard on and we get to showcase our own hard work. I’m looking forward to our future competitions and events.”
