“Diddy Riese is my favorite ice cream place to go to. I love ordering the ice cream sandwich with chocolate chip cookies and mint ice cream. Even though it is in Westwood, I think everyone should drive up there at least once to experience this new craze,” sophomore Audrey Davis said.
Diddy Riese has been open since 1983 and is increasing in popularity each year. It gets its original name from the owner, Mark Perry’s grandmother, Diddy Riese. All the secret cookies recipes were invented and passed down by his grandmother.
“Our cookies are all freshly baked and are made with secret recipes passed down. I normally put a lot of cookies on the counter and they will all be gone within the first four hours that the store is open. We sell more cookies than Mrs. Fields,” manager of Diddy Riese said.
On average, over one thousand costumers come to Diddy Riese each day. It is popular with not only high school students, but with all varied age groups as well. The most frequently ordered ice cream sandwich is chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream, vanilla ice cream being the most popular ice cream choice.
“My favorite thing to get from Diddy Riese is chocolate chip cookies with strawberry ice cream. It’s hard to go to the store a lot, because it’s in Westwood and the line is always long, but it’s definitely worth it,” sophomore Abby Salk said.
Diddy Riese sells a variety of tasty desserts for cheap prices. They sell ice cream sandwiches for $1.50. Some of the cookies they sell are: chocolate chip, sugar cinnamon, peanut butter…etc. All of the cookies are $0.35 each. “It was an exciting moment to finally go to Diddy Riese for the first time with my friends. After waiting in an extremely long line out the door, I got to enjoy an ice cream sandwich that was worth all the wait,” senior Caitlyn Lombardo said.
1. It’s obviously not a “new place for high school students to hang out” if it’s been open since 1983
2. It’s in Westwood… there a big university there called UCLA, I dunno if you’ve heard about it, but I know that there are a lot more college aged people than high school students around there.
3. It’s most definitely a cookie shop first and an ice cream shop second.
