Sir Elton John, after many years of fame and tours, wraps up his last shows ever with his final stops in Southern California. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour was the last time fans could see the brilliant John on tour, and has now ended with his final spectacle in Dodger Stadium.
The well known British singer, pianist and composer’s retirement concert tickets were quick to sell out, with many desperate to see the legend on the stage one last time. The concert duration lasted about three hours, with no opening act. John kicked off the night with one of his greatest hits, Bennie and the Jets.
Elton John started touring at the age of 23, and started releasing music only a year prior. Since then, John has produced 31 albums.
After many years of performing and fame, the 75 year old artist has decided to finally retire. At his concerts, he expressed his excitement to settle down and enjoy his time with his husband and young sons.
The final show encapsulated Elton John’s true musical talent. His outstanding vocals coincide so easily with his piano playing. It’s clear John pours his heart into his performances, giving equal attention both skills at once.
Those who caught the final show at Dodger Stadium were also lucky enough to see other artists as well. His final show featured Dua Lipa, Brandi Carlile and Kiki Dee, all talented artists who have been featured in Elton John’s discography.
Elton John played many of his most famous songs, keeping all those watching on their feet and singing along. Some of these included Tiny Dancer, Candle in the Wind, I’m Still Standing, and Crocodile Rock.
The show’s encore was the perfect way to end the night. After playing the first 20 songs, John arose again to play Cold Heart (PNAU Remix), Your Song, and ended the night with the breathtaking Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
Audiences were left blown away, and covered in yellow confetti. The knighthood exited the stage with a wave goodbye, and was carried up to a secret door. A projection then showed him walking along the yellow brick road, where he fades into the background.
Overall, the concert was nothing short of spectacular. Although the night was filled with joy, it also left many feeling sorrowful knowing that would be the nicknamed “Rocketman’s” final performance. However, the concert is available for streaming on Disney+, titled “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.”
Although fans will never see Elton John in concert again, his legacy and mark on the music industry will be remembered forever.
