Costa’s percussion team won first place at the Southern California Percussion Alliance (SCPA) championships on April 15, with a score of 93.5 points.
The competition originally had 50 teams but was lowered to 12 for the finals. According to sophomore Christian Camacho, the ensemble practiced for at least nine hours a week, as well as individual practice at home.
“This win is extremely significant because, before the pandemic, we had never made it to finals before,” said Camacho. “Now, we’re making a name for our school in the drumline community.”
