The 2023 Oscars took place on Sunday, March 12, at The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The event started at 5pm E.T and ended at 8:30pm. Over 2,500 star guests attended as they each were nominated for their movie, show, and short film.
Before taking a seat inside the Dolby Theater, guests are seen taking pictures with paparazzi on the red carpet before entering. Everyone is dressed up with unique dresses and suits made from all over the world. Guests were allowed to invite their family members as they each shared recognition towards their family when they won awards.
Jimmy Kimmel, also known as the host for The Tonight Show was seen as the main speaker for the Oscars.
The first award was dedicated to hair and makeup. The nominees for that category were, “Elvis”, “All Quiet on The Western Front”, “The Batman”, “Black Panther” and lasty “The Whale”. The award went to “The Whale”.
The movie “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, won 7 different Oscars throughout the event. The movie is about a Chinese immigrant trying to prevent a powerful creature from destroying their universe. The film is rated R and won the categories of best picture, best actress, best director, best supporting actor, best supporting actress, original screenplay, and film editing.
Michelle Yeoh is the first Asian woman to win a leading role as an actress. She shouts, “history made” as her movie received 7 different awards and also seen as the first asian women to receive an individual award.
Another successful film that received multiple awards was “All Quiet on the Western Front”. The film was based on the original book which was about young men who fought in war. They received awards for production design, cinematography, original score, and international film.
Rhianna performed “Lift Me Up” which was in the movie “Wakanda Forever”. She was recently seen performing at the Super Bowl mid february. She was capable of performing due to her song being nominated as best original song. Other artists such as Lenny Kravitz performed during the memorial presentation of the lives that were lost in 2022-2023.
Many actors and people in the audience became emotional during the memorial while Lenny Kravitz played the piano. The presentation lasted 5 minutes of over 50 people who tragically passed away.
The Oscars ended around 8:32 pm E.T time. The cast of “Everything Everywhere All at Once” concluded the event as they all said thank you and congratulated everyone who won and the nominees.
