After almost 4 years of silence, the Jonas Brothers return to the music industry together, releasing their 6th studio album, “The Album”.
Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas first rose to fame in the early 2000s when they appeared in various shows on the Disney Channel. They formed their boy band, The Jonas Brothers, in 2005 and continued to pursue music throughout the years. Although the band officially split in 2013, they have released 2 albums since and have stayed in the entertainment industry.
“The Album ”, which consists of 12 songs, was released through Republic Records. released on May 12, 2023, brings back a blend of the early 2010s summer pop vibe, creating a feeling of nostalgia for many. Out of the 12 songs, there were 2 pre-released singles; “Wings”, released on Feb. 24, and “Waffle House”, released on April 7.
“Waffle House” is a song which all of the Jonas Brothers reminisce of old memories and good times at the Waffle House, a real restaurant they used to go to after recording shows. This song is different from others, since it is more personal to them and they seem more connect more with one another. It also leans towards a more gospel genre than the rest of the album.
“Vacation Eyes” is bound to be the next summer anthem. The lyrics talk about a summer fling and how the Jonas Brothers long for summer throughout the year. They emphasize how summer vacation is the highlight of every year. The release of this song is perfect, preparing people just in time for summer, bringing back the nostalgia of 2010s pop.
“Little Bird” is more of a sorrow song about lost love, bringing some variation and a more serious tone into the album. He sings about a woman he loved, who slipped away from him, so the mutual love is gone. Jonas compares his lost love to a bird’s freedom as he sings, “So please just keep me in your heart, when you fly into somebody else’s arms, little bird”. This creates an emotional impact, causing them to feel sympathetic.
Lastly, the album finishes off with “Walls”, featuring the Jonas Brothers’ executive producer, Jon Bellion, making him the only featured artist in this album. This song has a blend of Spanish and English lyrics. Although this song gets repetitive, it is interesting that they incorporated a foreign language.
The mix of genres and varieties of moods in “The Album” make it interesting to listen to, while simultaneously preparing listeners for the summer. Old Jonas Brothers fans are elated about their return, especially because this album is bound to be popular in the 2023 summer.
“The Album” can be streamed on Amazon Music, Spotify, Youtube, and Apple Music. It can be purchased for $13.99 at Target, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
