Tan was a National Merit Scholar and student of the year finalist, and received the Math Department award along with the AP Chemistry award. According to Tan, this event is so important because it sheds light on so many people who might otherwise go unnoticed as an average Costa student.
“It’s so hard to find glory in grades, so being able to be on stage and recognized for outstanding dedication and achievement is important,” said Tan. “It’s not only important to the award recipients, but also to listeners, who can learn to appreciate and respect their classmates.”
