The Mira Costa Mustangs lost Sept. 22 to an impressive Villa Park football team, 28-13. Villa Park came out strong, scoring an 80-yard touchdown on the second down of the game. The Mustangs showed few signs of life for making a comeback but never fully recovered.
Costa lost several key players who were seriously injured throughout the game. Starting safety Eli Cebula was taken out of the game with a fractured skull and minor concussion, while starting linebacker Michael Butler fractured his shoulder near the end of the game.
Mira Costa is going into its first Bay League game Sept. 29 against Culver City.
”We will be putting in the work this week to beat Culver. With losing two important players on our defense, we will need to work twice as hard to make up for it,” junior Michael Husson said.
