With LED wristbands flashing and confetti cannons blasting, “Higher Power” played as Coldplay opened the final show in the North American leg of its “Music of the Spheres” tour.
The night began with a phenomenal selection of openers, including H.E.R and 070 Shake. Coldplay’s setlist made for a truly unforgettable experience, as the iconic band performed a rotation of its most popular songs such as “Yellow,” “Viva La Vida,” and “Clocks.”
To start out the show, lead singer Chris Martin welcomed two fans to the stage to play “Let Somebody Go,” Coldplay’s song featuring Selena Gomez and a surprise addition to the concert’s setlist. Moments later, Gomez emerged onto the stage to sing her own verses of the song, leaving fans shocked and screaming at the top of their lungs.
Another amazing aspect of the show was the band’s emphasis on environmental sustainability. Coldplay offered energy bicycles and “kinetic dance party,” dance floors where fans could jump and dance to produce electricity for the show. The band also pledged to plant a tree for every ticket sold, using its large platform to make an important impact on the world.
During the hit song “A Sky Full of Stars,” Chris Martin cut the music at the beat drop and acted as if the show was over. Fans were disappointed and even angry, but then just like magic, fireworks and lasers sent electrifying energy throughout the stadium as the music started back up.
The concert was held at the Rose Bowl Stadium on Oct. 1. For more information visit coldplay.com.
