Universal Studios transformed its park to frighten visitors for its annual Horror Nights.
Universal Studios Hollywood curated eight haunted houses, each designed according to a different theme. Some of the highlights include “Stranger Things 4,” “The Last of Us,” and “The Exorcist.” Most of the houses were thrilling, with strategically-placed jump scares and terrifying acting. However, “Chucky,” a classic movie theme that set high expectations, underwhelmed visitors with extremely long lines and a predictable layout.
In addition to the haunted houses, the theme park offered rides including “Revenge of the Mummy,” “Jurassic Park: The Ride,” and “Terror Tram… The Exterminatorz.” Roller coasters “Revenge of the Mummy” and “Jurassic Park: The Ride” are available year-round but provided visitors with a safe haven from the spine-chilling attractions of the rest of the park. The Terror Tram combined the thrill of a ride with the horror of a haunted house as visitors rode the tram to a giant bug-infested lot and walked through the set of this attraction site.
Actors disguised in creepy costumes roamed the streets of Universal, terrorizing pedestrians and amping up the fear factor. The monsters wielded props like fake chainsaws and daggers, coming close enough to terrify visitors while maintaining enough distance for personal space. The costumes were incredibly realistic and resembled nightmarish figures like Monkey Chimes from “American Horror Story” and Edgar Allen Crow, a massive crow on stilts.
Universal Horror Nights opened on Sept. 7 and is open 38 select nights until Oct. 31. For more information visit universalstudioshollywood.com.
