Individuals are now eligible to take the Online Driver’s Test at home, reducing time at the DMV office. This creates an environment for the people to have a more convenient and easier way of achieving their requirements to drive.

The California DMV offers an online permit test and e-learning course for adults and young adults, available 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, from 8am to 4pm. The online version of the knowledge test is designed to reduce the stress associated with taking the test in person. Learners can attempt the test twice online, and if they fail, the third test will be administered at the DMV. The online test necessitates the monitoring of the computer and the use of a camera at all times.

The same requirements go for the in person test. You must be fifteen and six months of age to get your instruction permit. According to KTLA news the at-home permit test application fee is $7 which is the same amount as if it was taken in person. This gives the parents and young adults a more convenient process, keeping things online to help keep organized. The online course and test was implied to give the remote test option for individuals renewing their license, getting your license or getting a CA state license for the first time. On the other hand the e-learning course is for just Californians renewing their license. In both situations, customers will still need to go to the DMV so they can provide the documents that are required. Along with a thumbprint, proof of identity and a vision test.

Newly offering the permit test at home online, abc10 states that when taking the online permit test or the renewal of your license the virtual test center can sense when you are looking away, looking down or going to a different browser and will automatically fail you. Starting off with taking the test at home, you have to agree to your computer being monitored so they can insure dishonesty and cheating. This gives the DMV the opportunity to go back and review the test being taken by the individual to ensure liability.

As many would say, it’s extremely convenient but one may argue that this increasingly leads to more uneducated and poor drivers on the road. From being able to be in the comfort of your own home to being able to maneuver around and dishonestly get answers to a question you may not understand or know. Creating more drivers who don’t know the material they are studying so doing it in person gives them a sense of more understanding. Taking away the point of actually comprehending the material needed to be learned to drive by doing it at home. Taking the test at home can initially give people the benefit of taking the test at home for personal reasons of which can vary based on the reasoning behind why taking the test at home could benefit someone needing alternatives.

While creating a way to be in the comfort of your own home and reducing time at the DMV, California makes it available for individuals to take their permit test at home along with many other advancements creating a more convenient way to achieve your learners permit.
