Costa’s Banned Books Club led a campaign Oct. 2-6 in honor of Banned Books Week.

Members of the club tied caution tape to their backpacks in protest of book bans during the campaign and distributed tape to other students. In total, approximately 200 students participated in the campaign. The club also set up a display in the library featuring books that have been banned throughout the country. The club aims to raise $10,000 or 1,000 books this year to donate to schools facing book bans.

“The caution tape is an attempt to represent the irony of the whole argument against the accessibility of diverse literature–they see education and literature as something dangerous,” said junior and Banned Books Club President Gianna Goodman-Bhyat.
