Boys Waterpolo was eliminated from the CIF playoffs after their semi-final matchup against Huntington Beach High School. The Mustangs were able to spark a comeback towards the end of the game, but the Oilers were able to keep their lead and win 13-7.

“We did everything we could to prepare for the game, it just didn’t go our way,” Coach Halushka said. “We watched all the film on them and read the scouting reports.”

The Mustangs were able to stay in the game with two clutch goals from senior captain Maddox McEwen and sophomore Flynn Gunther. However, this game got out of reach quickly after the Oilers scored six straight goals to build up their lead for the rest of the game.

“We didn’t score enough goals to keep momentum,” Coach Halushka said. “We prepared well and played great, we just had a couple of bad bounces and they played fundamentally sound water polo.”

The Mustangs started their late game stretch as McEwen scored four goals in a row, making the score 7-12. The deficit was too much for the Mustangs and the Oilers came out with the win 13-7. McEwen reflects on this great season as his Costa career comes to an end.

“I love my boys and we worked hard to get to where we are,” McEwen said. “I am proud of everything we accomplished and I am proud of all of my teammates who were with me throughout the journey.”
